
Mission
The mission of the Society of St. Romanos is to:
- Unify the fragmented elements of American Orthodoxy into one vibrant,
interactive cultural environment;
- Nourish the Orthodox community with outstanding, high quality cultural
events;
- Serve as a cultural clearinghouse and information base for the Orthodox
community in Chicago, nationally, and worldwide;
- Inject high Orthodox culture into American culture;
- Complement the evangelical message of the Orthodox Faith with a cultural
offering;
- Highlight the aesthetic dimension of the Orthodox Faith; complement Truth
with Beauty;
- Offer a viable alternative to secularly based culture;
- Present musical events of the highest caliber with a fully professional
ensemble — the St. Romanos Cappella;
- Attract and centralize the best available Orthodox musical talent in
Chicago;
- Attract the best available, non-Orthodox musical talent to an Orthodox
framework and perspective;
- Present musical events of the highest caliber with a professionally trained,
Orthodox children's choir — the St. Romanos Children's
Choir;
- Recruit the best available musical talent from the entire Chicago area
Orthodox community;
- Provide outstanding, professional, musical training to young Orthodox
singers from the Chicago area; Teach Orthodox children the hymns and music
of the Orthodox Church in all of its branches;
- Prepare the Children's Choir to sing at entire Divine Services
of the Orthodox Church in all of its branches;
- Prepare the members of the Children's Choir for a lifetime of
singing in the Church; and
- Form a lasting vision of Orthodox culture for future generations.
